Chipper to Rehab in Rome Friday and Saturday

June 8, 2012
Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is scheduled to play in Rome Friday and Saturday as part of a major league rehabilitation assignment. Jones is on the Atlanta disabled list with a left calf contusion and had surgery May 26 to drain a hematoma on his lower left leg. He took batting practice in Miami on Tuesday and had the stitches removed Wednesday.

Jones is no stranger to Rome having served rehab assignments in years past most recently in 2011. He has stated he will retire at the end of the 2012 season. He debuted in 1993, and has played his entire career as a Brave. Chipper won the 1999 National League Most Valuable Player Award, as well as the 1999 and 2000 National League Silver Slugger Award for third basemen. On July 5, 2007, he passed Dale Murphy for third place on the Braves all-time career home run list.

Rome begins a three game series again the August GreenJackets Friday at 7pm. For ticket information contact the Rome Braves ticket office at 706-378-5144. Tickets are also available at romebraves.com.
