Inaugural No Excuses 5/10K April 20

February 25, 2013

The Rome Braves announce the Inaugural No Excuses 5/10K will take place on Saturday April 20th. This first time event is in memory of local fitness and health trainer Scott Hines and will benefit the Braves Miracle Field of Rome. The 5/10K road race will be held at 8am, starting at the Braves Miracle Field of Rome complex and ending with runners crossing home plate at State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves.

Scott Hines was known throughout Rome and the state of Georgia for his personal and sports performance training, especially with high school and collegiate athletes. He was the founder of Rome's Pro Performance and a former State Director for the National Strength and Conditioning Association in both South Carolina and Georgia. Scott's "No Excuses" motto challenged many, despite age or athletic ability, to get personally fit and active.

The athletes at the Braves Miracle Field of Rome live Scott's motto of "No Excuses" each week as they suit up to play America's pastime in the spring and fall. Our inaugural season in spring 2012 saw 100 athletes of all ages come out to play baseball. Then in October a fall league was started along with a weekday school league. The school league has proven to be a great success as it has allowed athletes who do not normally compete in Miracle League to play ball. Through a partnership with the Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation Authority, the Braves Miracle Field of Rome programs baseball games throughout the spring and fall for children and adults with any disability to be able to enjoy the game of baseball. The commitment extends to insure that no athlete is turned away from the game due to financial constraints.

"The family of Scott Hines, Sr., is very pleased to know that the No Excuses 5/10K will both honor his memory and benefit the Braves Miracle Field of Rome. Scott would have loved the concept behind the Miracle Field, and the opportunity to work with and encourage young people to achieve more than they thought possible. We are very proud of the legacy Scott left in Rome and hope that his real-life motto, "No Excuses," continues to be a motivator to many," said Tommy Hines, brother and family spokesperson.
