Rain Shortened Game Goes to Rome 6-5

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves were a winner Sunday over the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-5 after the game was called in the middle of the eighth due to an onslaught of rain. 
In the first inning Kannapolis got an early 1-0 advantage thanks to Michael Hickman's run scoring single. The Braves bounced back in the bottom of the inning with two runs on RBI base hits by Jefrey Ramos and Austin Bush. The lead didn't hold for long as the Intimidators made it a 5-2 game in the second on Luis Curbelo's two run double and another two RBI double by Craig Dedelow. Rome tied the game in the third thanks to William Contreras' (7) three run homer for the 5-5 score. In the fourth, the Braves regained the lead on Marcos Almonte's single to score a run for the 6-5 lead. The rains came and came hard in the middle of the eighth halting play and eventually giving Rome the victory. 
Relief pitcher Walter Borkovich (4-1) picks up the win for Rome going 4.1 innings with three strikeouts, two hits and no runs. Kelvin Rodriguez (8) gets the save. Kannapolis starter Jhoan Quijada (0-2) receives the loss.
