Shut-down pitching and well-timed hitting lifted the Rome Braves (42-52) to a 4-2 win on Saturday night over the visiting Greenville Drive (50-44). Jared Shuster put together a great start and relievers Emmanuel Ramirez and Zach Daniels picked up where he left off en route to a two-run victory.

After three-and-a-half frames of scoreless baseball, Rome jumped on the board in the bottom of the fourth. A fielding error allowed Beau Philip to reach and Cody Milligan to score, then Shean Michel touched home plate following a passed ball. Greenville matched it with a two-run fifth, but the R-Braves reclaimed the lead in the home-half of inning no. six. Another wild pitch let Milligan come around to make it 3-2 Rome, and an RBI single by Jesse Franklin V drove in Michel from third base to push the Braves’ advantage to two runs. Strong pitching in relief from Emmanuel Ramirez and Zach Daniels slammed the door on the Drive offense, leading to a 4-2 victory for the home squad.

Milligan (2-4, 2 R) led the team with two hits on the night. Michel (1-3) scored twice and Franklin (1-3) finished with one RBI. Carlos Martinez got the start at catcher and picked up one hit in a 1-for-3 performance.

The story of the game was the show that starting pitcher Jared Shuster gave the home crowd on Saturday night. Atlanta’s 2020 first-round pick threw six innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and one walk. Shuster also struck out five batters in the outing. His efforts on Saturday evening improved his season record to 2-0. Ramirez (2IP, 1H, 1BB, 4K) received a hold (1) and Daniels (1IP, 1H) earned his third save of 2021.
