Pimentel magical but beaten 1-0 by Corpus Christi

RoughRiders fall in pitchers' duel on solo home run in the seventh
April 20, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (APRIL 20, 2013) - Carlos Pimentel and the Frisco RoughRiders came up just short in a fantastic pitchers' dual Saturday night at Whataburger Field. The Corpus Christi Hooks collected just two hits that left the infield, but one left the ballpark, and they beat the RoughRiders 1-0.

The pitching shined in this one. Frisco's Carlos Pimentel tossed seven innings of one-run baseball. Going into the seventh, he had allowed just two hits, both of them infield singles. With one down in the seventh, George Springer got ahead 2-1 and smashed his fourth home run of the season, this one to left center field, scoring the game's only run.

The road struggles continued for the Frisco offense. The Hook's David Martinez tossed five perfect frames before giving way to Asher Wojciechowski. The 'Riders at least got a hit off of the back-half of the tandem pairing, but Frisco mustered just two base knocks in total and could not string them together.

Jared Hoying ended the bid for the perfect game with a double to right field in the seventh inning, but Brett Nicholas then popped out to end the frame. Alex Buchholz picked up a lead off single to begin the eighth, but the 'Riders went in order after him, including two strikeouts. Wojciechowski dispatched Frisco quickly in the ninth.

Pimentel (2-1) took the loss in one of the most impressive RoughRiders starts this year. In relief, Wojciechowski (2-0) picked up the win. Frisco (9-6) is still in first place in the Texas League but now tied with Corpus Christi (9-6).

The RoughRiders finish up the series with the Corpus Christi Hooks at 1:05 p.m. at Whataburger Field Sunday afternoon. Ryan Feierabend (0-1, 4.20 ERA) makes the start for Frisco. Matt Heidenreich (1-1, 7.20 ERA) goes for Corpus Christi in the series finale.  Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 12:40.

Frisco will return to Dr Pepper Ballpark Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. when they host Corpus Christi.  For information on tickets to see the RoughRiders in 2013, please call (972) 731-9200, email [email protected] or visit www.ridersbaseball.com.
