FRISCO, Texas (April 9, 2017) - With reports surfacing that former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may embark on a one-day NBA career, the Frisco RoughRiders have extended an open-ended offer to Phil Simms to serve as "lead analyst for a day" on the club's MiLB.tv broadcasts.
"On behalf of the entire RoughRiders organization, we very much look forward to honoring one of TV's all-time best NFL analysts with a very special broadcast experience," RoughRiders general manager Jason Dambach said. "We don't have specific details at this time of when Simms may join our broadcasts, but we encourage fans to watch RoughRiders baseball online and visit Dr Pepper Ballpark."
Though the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback and longtime CBS NFL analyst has no apparent minor league broadcasting experience, the RoughRiders have offered Simms the No. 1 game analyst role alongside the team's award-winning broadcasters Ryan Rouillard and Keith Raad. The one-day contract can be accepted and executed by Simms any time during the RoughRiders' 2017 regular season, beginning with today's series opener against the Tulsa Drillers.
The three-game Tulsa series concludes a season-opening six-game homestand for the RoughRiders. The Riders and Drillers play today (4:05 p.m.), Monday (7:05 p.m.) and Tuesday (11:05 a.m.), with gates to Dr Pepper Ballpark opening an hour before first pitch (90 minutes early for Founders Members). Today's game includes free 2017 schedule posters for the first 2,000 fans, the Choctaw Lazy River Pool Party for just $39 per person and Kids Sunday Funday (pre-game catch on the field for kids and their parents/guardians and $1 ice cream sandwiches all game).
