CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (JULY 12, 2013) - Playing in extra innings for the second time in the series, the Frisco RoughRiders topped the Corpus Christi Hooks by a 6-3 score at Whataburger Field on Friday night. It was the third time the 'Riders have played 13 innings or more in Corpus Christi this season; they have won two of those three marathon contests.

To get it to extra innings, the 'Riders had to come from behind on Friday. The Hooks (11-10, 53-38) scored three runs off Carlos Pimentel and led the RoughRiders (8-13, 47-44) by a 3-1 score after five innings. Frisco had mustered just one run off Mike Folynewicz in the first five innings, a fourth inning RBI double from Chih-Hsien Chiang, but they broke things open in the sixth.

The 'Riders knocked back-to-back-to-back singles to lead off the frame and load the bases for Alex Buchholz. Playing first base for the first time this season, Buchholz put the ball in play on a grounder to his usual position at third base. Jonathan Meyer fielded the ball and touched third base for one out. One scored on the play, but Meyer threw wild and his error on the attempted double play but two men into scoring position. Chiang brought home his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 3-3.

Neither team scored for the next six innings. Pimentel finished a strong outing with two perfect innings. He went seven innings and allowed three runs, one unearned, on six hits and a walk, while striking out five. The 'Riders bullpen posted six scoreless innings with just two hits allowed. Alex Claudio and Randy Henry each threw one inning, while Phil Klein and Lisalverto Bonilla split the extra innings with two scoreless frames apiece.

The Hooks bullpen was impressive as well. Led by three perfect innings from Matt Heidenreich, the game went scoreless into the 13th inning. That's when Corpus Christi went to left-handed Matt Long. Alejandro Selen was the first to face him, having come on in the 11th for the ejected Teodoro Martinez. He homered to left center field to give Frisco a 4-3 lead. Selen's blast, his third of the year, was his first away from home this season. It was also the first of five straight hits for the 'Riders in the inning, who plated three.

Bonilla finished off a 1-2-3 bottom half of the inning with strikeouts to finish off the Hooks and the ballgame.

Bonilla (1-0) earned the win with two perfect innings, including three strikeouts. Long (0-1) took the loss.

The RoughRiders wrap up their series with the Hooks on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. from Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Tyler Tufts (2-2, 3.88 ERA) makes the start in the series finale against Texas League All-Star David Martinez (10-2, 1.99 ERA). Fans can tune in to the play-by-play broadcast on www.RidersBaseball.com beginning at 5:40.

The 'Riders return home on Sunday, July 13, hosting the San Antonio Missions for the first of four games at Dr Pepper Ballpark. For information on tickets to see the RoughRiders in 2013, please call (972) 731-9200, email [email protected] or visit www.ridersbaseball.com.
