ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday afternoon that Round Rock Express C Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been recalled to the major league club. The backstop will be with the Rangers tonight in Arlington, seeking to make his major league debut after his first career call-up.
The 23-year-old utilityman had started all five Express games to open the season, appearing at catcher, shortstop and second base. Kiner-Falefa hit 3-15 with three walks, an RBI and two runs scored during his brief stint with the Express. The Hawaii native made his Triple-A debut on Thursday with the E-Train.
Kiner-Falefa spent the duration of the 2017 campaign with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, hitting .288 with 31 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 48 RBI in 129 total games. In his five-year professional career, he has appeared at each position except pitcher and right field.
In a corresponding move, C Carlos Garay joins the Express from Rangers extended spring training. The backstop has yet to appear in a game this season. Additionally, E-Train INF Trevor Plouffe has been granted his release after appearing in four games with the Express, hitting 3-11 with a double, home run and two RBI. INF Cristian Inoa has been added to the Round Rock roster from extended spring training. The 18-year-old is looking to make his Triple-A debut after spending 2017 with the Short Season Spokane Indians.
The Express face off against the Oklahoma City Dodgers tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
E-Train RHP David Ledbetter (0-1, 5.40) is scheduled to take the mound against Dodgers RHP Zach Neal (0-0, 0.00).
