Texas Rangers Recall Round Rock Express INF Ronald Guzman

Rangers Also Sign RHP Yovani Gallardo, Assign to Round Rock in Flurry of Transactions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The Texas Rangers announced on Friday afternoon that Round Rock Express INF Ronald Guzman has been recalled to the major league club for the first time in his career. Guzman is slated to start at first base for the Rangers tonight in Houston against the Astros for his major league debut.

The first baseman was named the 2017 Round Rock Express MVP as well as the Texas Rangers Tom Grieve Minor League Player of the Year. Guzman led the Express in a variety of offensive categories, including batting average (.298), runs scored (78) and hits (140) a season ago. He had started in five games for the E-Train in 2018, going 7-17 (.412) with two doubles, an RBI and five runs scored.

In a corresponding move, INF Tommy Joseph has been promoted from the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders to the Express. Joseph spent the duration of the 2017 season with the Philadelphia Phillies, batting .240 (119-495) with 22 home runs and 69 RBI. The infielder appeared in seven games with the RoughRiders in 2018, hitting .286 (8-28) with two doubles and three RBI.

Additionally, Round Rock OF Michael O'Neill has been reassigned to Frisco and RoughRiders OF Scott Heineman joins the Express. O'Neill played in six games for the E-Train, hitting .182 (4-22) with three doubles and an RBI. Heineman has burst out of the gate in 2018, posting a .522 batting average (12-23) with a pair of doubles, a home run, and 10 RBI in seven games with Frisco.

Finally, the Rangers announced the signing of RHP Yovani Gallardo to a minor league contract. The 32-year-old veteran is expected to join Round Rock on Tuesday for the team's next homestand. Gallardo opened the year with the Cincinnati Reds, allowing eight runs in 2.1 innings before being designated for assignment on April 10 and released on April 12.

Tonight's Express game against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service field has been postponed due to wind and freezing temperatures. The two teams face off on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CDT. The Express return home to Dell Diamond on Tuesday, April 17 to face the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
