B-Mets Bash Aeros for Third Straight, 7-5

AKRON, OH - The Binghamton Mets pounded out 13 hits, including seven for extra-bases and received six strong innings from starter Logan Verrett en route to a 7-5 win over the Akron Aeros on Saturday afternoon at Canal Park. Blake Forsythe led the offensive with three RBI on three hits. He finished a home run shy of the cycle in his Double-A debut.

Binghamton remains the only undefeated team in the Eastern League and their 3-0 start is the franchise's best since 2000.

Binghamton wasted little time getting on the board against Akron starter Matt Packer. In the first inning, Darrell Ceciliani laced a triple into the right field alley and came home on Josh Rodriguez's dump-in single behind second base.

The B-Mets offensive attack continued with a three-run fourth inning. Cory Vaughn doubled the lead by bouncing an RBI triple off the right field wall. Danny Muno caught a break when right fielder Carlos Moncrief lost his fly ball in the sun, leading to an RBI double. Forsythe capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle.

Binghamton stretched their lead to five on a fielding error by third baseman Giovanny Urshela in the fifth.

Verrett needed little offensive support through the first six innings. Making his Double-A debut, the righty faced just two over the minimum through six frames. At one point he retired 12 straight, but ran into trouble in the seventh. Moncrief started the frame with a single and Jesus Aguilar put the Aeros on the board with a two-run homer to right. Verrett exited after walking Chun Chen.

John Church entered and surrendered an RBI single to Giovanny Urshela, but shut the door by striking out Tyler Holt, stranding two runners, including the potential game-tying run.

With their lead trimmed to two, Binghamton had a quick rebuttal in the seventh against reliever Eric Berger. Following a walk and an error, Blake Forsythe stroked a two-run triple off the right field wall, doubling Binghamton's lead.

Adam Kolarek nursed the four-run advantage with a scoreless eighth before handing off to Adrian Rosario in the ninth. The righty issued a free pass to the first batter he faced and paid for it when Quincy Latimore launched a two-run shot to left. Rosario bounced back and retired the next three batters to end the game.

Verrett (1-0) allowed three runs on four hits in the winning effort. Packer (0-1) was tagged for five runs (four earned) on nine hits in 4-2/3 innings of work.

The B-Mets (3-0) will go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon at 2:05 PM. RHP Tyler Pill makes his Double-A debut against RHP Paolo Espino. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 1:50 PM
