B-Mets Declaw SeaWolves in Doubleheader Sweep

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets stretched their winning streak to six games by sweeping the Erie SeaWolves in a doubleheader on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. In the opener, the B-Mets grabbed the lead with a three-run fourth inning and never looked back in a 4-2 victory. Binghamton launched four home runs in the nightcap and Hansel Robles spun his first career complete-game shutout in a 6-0 win to secure the sweep.

Eric Young Jr. went hitless in six at-bats in both games on Major League rehab with the B-Mets. He stole a base, scored one run and played seven defensive innings in left field.

GAME ONE: B-Mets 4, SeaWolves 2

Binghamton got on the board right away. Eric Young, Jr. led off with a walk against starter Kyle Ryan and stole second base. Young moved to third on a Brian Burgamy single. Matt Reynolds brought him home with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The SeaWolves came back to tie the game in the third against Tyler Pill. After retiring five straight batters, Pill allowed a leadoff double to Aaron Westlake. A sacrifice bunt by Dixon Machado moved him the third. Westlake scored thanks to a sacrifice fly to left field by the next batter, Jamie Johnson. Erie took its only lead of the twin bill in the fourth. Devon Travis hammered a 1-1 pitch over the left-field wall for the 2-1 Erie lead.

Binghamton came right back, opening the fourth inning with four consecutive singles. Kevin Plawecki and Jayce Boyd scored on a two-run single by Travis Taijeron to put Binghamton in front, 3-2. Kyle Johnson capped the frame with a sacrifice fly, plating Dustin Lawley.

Pill (4-5) allowed two runs on four hits to stretch his unbeaten streak to seven games. Ryan (5-6) surrendered four runs on seven hits over five innings in the loss. Adam Kolarek collected the final four outs to earn his second save.

GAME TWO: B-Mets 6, SeaWolves 0

In the nightcap, the B-Mets once again wasted no time putting up runs, this time against Erie starter Nick Avila. Burgamy, the second batter of the first inning, deposited a 2-1 pitch over the left-center field wall for his tenth homer of the season.

The B-Mets added to that total in the third. Following a two-out double by Burgamy, Matt Reynolds hooked his first long ball of the season inside the left-field foul pole, giving Binghamton a 3-0 lead.

The home run parade continued in the fifth against reliever Guido Knudson. After Reynolds worked a two-out walk, Matt Clark threaded his tenth round-tripper of the year inside the right-field foul pole. Travis Taijeron capped the barrage with a solo bomb in the sixth off Will Startup.

The power was plenty for B-Mets starter Hansel Robles. After allowing two hits to the first two batters of the game, the righty settled down, retiring 20 of the next 21 batters he faced. Corey Jones ended the streak with a two-out single off the right-field wall, but was gunned down by Taijeron at second, ending the game.

Robles (4-4) needed just 72 pitches to toss his first career complete game. Avila (0-3) went four innings and allowed three runs.

The B-Mets (38-30) wrap up their series with the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday at 6:35 PM. LHP Angel Cuan takes the bump for Binghamton opposite RHP Wilsen Palacios.
