B-Mets Downright Offensive in 11-3 Victory

AKRON, OH - The Binghamton Mets racked up 14 hits and exploded for eight runs in the seventh inning en route to an 11-3 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday night at Canal Park. Binghamton went 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position and had four different players record multiple hits in their fourth consecutive win.

For the first time in the five-game series, neither team scored in the first inning. The RubberDucks broke the scoreless game in the second. Brian LaHair ripped Greg Peavey's 1-1 offering over the right-field wall for his second homer of the season. Peavey allowed two more to reach, but escaped the inning without any further damage.

Akron starter Joe Colon kept his infielders busy while stymieing the B-Mets offense through four scoreless innings. The righty used a pair of double plays to kill a pair of Binghamton rallies in the second and third innings. The B-Mets went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position while bouncing into six groundouts through the first four innings.

Binghamton snapped out of the funk in the fifth. After a leadoff walk to Travis Taijeron and a double by Xorge Carrillo, Rylan Sandoval tied the game with a bloop single to shallow left-center. Two batters later, Brian Burgamy gave the B-Mets a one-run lead with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The B-Mets added to their lead and chased Colon from the game with a two-out rally in the sixth. With the bases empty, Dustin Lawley scorched a double off the base of the left-field wall. Taijeron followed by lacing a double to left, kicking Binghamton's advantage to two runs.

Peavey bounced back from his challenging second inning and settled in, retiring 11 straight RubberDucks. The righty cruised into the sixth before allowing two to reach on a single and a walk. Alex Lavisky grounded an RBI single up the middle, cutting Binghamton's lead to one. Peavey limited the damage to one run and capped his night by getting the final out of the inning.

With their lead trimmed to one, Binghamton erupted in the seventh. After loading the bases against Adam Miller, the B-Mets broke the game open against Giovanni Soto. Matt Clark greeted the lefty with a two-run double down the left-field line, and Jayce Boyd stretched the lead out with a two-run single up the middle. Binghamton tacked on four more runs while sending 12 men to the plate in the inning.

Peavey (4-1) allowed two runs on four hits over six innings of work. He struck out three in his first win since May 14. Colon (5-4) was tagged for three runs on eight hits over 5-2/3 innings in the loss.

The B-Mets (36-30) open a four-game series against the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night at 7:05 PM at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Tyler Pill takes the mound against LHP Kyle Ryan.
