B-Mets Express Rolls Over Curve, 15-6

Binghamton snaps skid with 19-hit attack
June 3, 2014

ALTOONA, PA - The Binghamton Mets hammered out a season-high 19 hits in a 15-6 blowout victory over the Altoona Curve on Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The B-Mets set a season-high in runs scored and margin of victory en route to ending an eight-game road losing streak and snapping a three-game skid.

Five different B-Mets registered multiple-hit games with Matt Clark and Kevin Plawecki leading the charge owning four hits apiece. Plawecki launched his sixth home run of the season and collected four RBI for the second time in eight days.

Although the final was lopsided, Binghamton opened the game quietly. After scoring one run in their previous three games combined, the Curve offense awoke in the first against Tyler Pill, tagging the righty for three runs on three hits. Keon Broxton put Altoona on the board with a soft liner to right-center, plating Drew Maggi. Willy Garcia delivered the big hit with a two-out, two-run double down the left-field line.

Curve starter Zack Dodson kept the B-Mets offense in check for four innings before unraveling in the fifth. A throwing error by third baseman Jarek Cunningham to start the frame opened the door. Darrell Ceciliani followed the misplay by launching his second home run of the season over the right-center field wall, cutting Altoona's lead to one.

Two batters later, Matt Reynolds started a hit barrage. The B-Mets shortstop shot a single up the middle, the first of five straight hits off Dodson. Plawecki, Dustin Lawley and Cory Vaughn all followed with consecutive run-producing hits, giving the B-Mets the lead. Vaughn's RBI single to left ended Dodson's night. Joan Montero took over and allowed both inherited runners to score.

Pill put his rocky first inning in the rearview mirror and cruised through his final five innings. Following his two-out walk in the opening frame, he put down 15 of the final 17 batters he faced, retiring eleven straight batters at one point.

Binghamton kept the good times rolling offensively in the sixth against Montero, with Clark and Plawecki collecting RBI singles. Brian Burgamy joined the party with a run-scoring single in the seventh against Matt Benedict. Vaughn added an RBI double in the eighth.

After Pill wrapped up his night with five scoreless innings, Hamilton Bennett tossed a scoreless seventh. The lefty surrendered a three-run homer to Garcia in the eighth following an inning-extending error by Reynolds at short.

Binghamton put a bow on their record-setting night by teeing-off on Andy Vasquez in the ninth after the outfielder was summoned to close Altoona's pitching tab. Plawecki launched a two-run homer to cap a four-RBI game and Vaughn crushed his third home run of the season.

Pill (3-5) allowed three runs on four hits over six innings to pick up his second win in as many games. Dodson (1-3) was tagged for seven runs (four earned) on eight hits over 4-1/3 innings in the defeat.

The B-Mets (31-25) continue their three-game series against the Curve on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. RHP Hansel Robles faces off against LHP Joely Rodriguez.
