d'Arnaud Blasts B-Mets to Third Straight, 3-1

Cuan battles for first Double-A win
May 25, 2014

BINGHAMTON, NY - Major League rehabber Travis d'Arnaud launched a tie-breaking, two-run home run to lead the Binghamton Mets past the New Britain Rock Cats, 3-1, on Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. d'Arnaud went 1-for-3 and caught five innings without issue in his first game with Binghamton during his rehab assignment. The B-Mets have won three straight overall and five in a row at home.

For the third straight game, the B-Mets fell behind early. The Rock Cats jumped on Angel Cuan with a two-out rally in the first inning. Following a walk to Nate Hanson, Kennys Vargas lined a double to the right-field alley, plating Hanson from first.

Binghamton responded against Sean Gilmartin in their first turn at the plate. Kyle Johnson started the frame by depositing a double into left and took third on a groundout. Kevin Plawecki followed with a dribbler down the third base line. The roller hugged the chalk and bounced off the bag for a single, bringing home Johnson to tie the game.

d'Arnaud pushed Binghamton to the lead in the third. After a leadoff single by Johnson, the New York Mets primary catcher launched Gilmartin's first pitch over the left-field fence. His blast, Binghamton's fourth of the series, gave the home team a 3-1 lead.

Cuan shook off New Britain's tally in the first and capped his night with four scoreless innings. The southpaw stranded five runners over his five innings of work and held the Rock Cats hitless in six at-bats with runners in scoring position.

The Binghamton Mets bullpen took the contest to the finish line with four scoreless frames. Jack Leathersich worked around a leadoff single to post a blank sixth and returned with a perfect seventh. Jon Velasquez breezed through a 1-2-3 eighth and Cody Satterwhite struck out two in the ninth to claim his second save of the season.

Cuan (1-1) allowed one run on seven hits over five innings to earn his first career Double-A victory. Gilmartin (4-3) surrendered three runs on seven hits in six innings of work the defeat.
