Eighth Inning Explosion Elevates B-Mets, 7-3

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets scored four runs in the eighth inning to break a tie game and defeat the New Britain Rock Cats, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton avoided a three-game sweep and snapped a four-game losing streak with the series finale victory.

The B-Mets were forced to play catch up after the Rock Cats got on the board in the second against Tyler Pill. After the first two batters reached, Matt Koch singled to right field. Rodriguez tried to score on the play, but was thrown out at the plate by Travis Taijeron. The next batter, Kyle Knudson laced a single to right field, plating Boyer with the game's first run.

Binghamton answered in the third against Taylor Rogers. Taijeron doubled with one out to start the rally. Following back-to-back walks, Matt Reynolds chopped a potential inning-ending double play to short. New Britain got the force at second, but Eddie Rosario's throw to first sailed into the stands, bringing home two runs.

The Rock Cats responded in the fifth inning. Sam Fuld and Rosario walked to put two runners on with nobody out. With one down, Kennys Vargas hit sacrifice fly to left field that scored Fuld to tie the game at two.

The back-and-forth play continued in the bottom of the inning. Taijeron led off with a double. Three batters later, Brian Burgamy brought him home on a single and once again Binghamton held a one-run lead, 3-2.

The score stayed that way until the top of the seventh. With T.J. Chism in his second inning of relief, Rosario reached on a two-out single. Nate Hanson doubled to put runners at second and third. Vargas responded with a single to knot the game up at three.

The B-Mets took the lead back for good in the eighth against Cole Johnson. Kyle Johnson started the rally with a double to left-center field. Rylan Sandoval lined a single to center, giving Binghamton the lead.

Following a single and walk, Jayce Boyd golfed an RBI single to left kicking the lead to two. Matt Clark scampered home on a wild pitch and Darrell Ceciliani capped the inning with a sac fly.

Satterwhite (3-1) tossed a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win. Johnson (0-3) allowed four runs in an inning of relief in the loss. Pill allowed two runs on four hits over five innings in the no-decision.

The B-Mets (32-29) hit the road to play five games in four days against the Akron RubberDucks starting Monday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Hansel Robles takes the hill for Binghamton.
