Forsythe's Hits Decisive Home Run in 1-0 Win

Forsythe's home run sends B-Mets to Victory
August 16, 2013

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets took one step closer to the postseason with a 1-0 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Blake Forsythe delivered a solo home run in the third inning for the decisive run in Binghamton's 12th shutout win of the season.

The win was Binghamton's second 1-0 victory, and their fourth shutout win in August.

Forsythe hit the home run came against Cole De Vries to lead off the third inning. It was his ninth home run of the season, and his second in as many days. The home run was one of four hits Binghamton collected on then night, but it was plenty for Noah Syndergaard and the B-Met pitching staff.

Syndergaard was nothing short of dominant on the mound against the Rock Cats. He scattered three hits over five innings while earning his sixth B-Met win this season. He faced no more than four batters in any inning, and matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts.

In the sixth, Ryan Fraser relieved Syndergaard. Fraser allowed a single and a walk with one out as New Britain put together their biggest threat of the night. He then got out of the jam by forcing Miguel Sano and Reynaldo Rodriguez to fly out and end the inning. He followed with a scoreless seventh before handing the ball off to Chasen Bradford.

Bradford retired all three batters he faced in a perfect eighth inning. Bradford took only 10 pitches to pave the way for Jeff Walters in the ninth. Walters slammed the door with a perfect ninth inning to earn his 35th save of the season.

The B-Mets (78-47) return to the field on Saturday night against the Rock Cats (58-67) at NYSEG Stadium. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound for the B-Mets against RHP Matt Summers. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show beginning at 6:50 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Over his last four starts Noah Syndergaard has thrown 21.0 innings, allowed one earned run on eight hits, and has tallied 26 strikeouts…New Britain beat Binghamton, 1-0 on May 23 at New Britain Stadium
