Carpool program next step in sustainability efforts at Raley Field

River Cats introduce River Cats Road Relief for 2016 season
April 4, 2016

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats are eager to announce River Cats Road Relief, presented by Sacramento Region Spare The Air. River Cats Road Relief is all-new in 2016 and is designed to encourage fans to consider more energy friendly modes of transportation when visiting Raley Field and to reduce the River Cats' overall environmental impact.

River Cats Road Relief is made up of three separate, yet equally important initiatives, each a different approach to lessening the River Cats' carbon footprint. The three programs include the Lasher's Subaru Carpool program, Tito's Trolley, and Bike Valet.

"We saw an opportunity to encourage our fans to take steps to decrease their environmental impact and in turn reduce ours" explained Chip Maxson, River Cats General Manager. "The goal with River Cats Road Relief is to improve the fan experience while maintaining our commitment to sustainable business practices. These initiatives will reduce the number of cars commuting to Raley Field each night and support our pledge to build a healthier Sacramento."

Lasher's Subaru Carpool Parking is a carpool program that provides free carpool parking for vehicles with four or more passengers. By visiting the Lasher's Elk Grove Subaru website, fans will be able to print a special dated parking pass, which, when presented to an attendant at a Raley Field parking lot, will allow for free parking at River Cats regular season games. Learn more and print your passes by visiting www.lasherautogroup.com/rivercats.

Tito's Trolley will be an all-new trolley service that travels between downtown Sacramento and Raley Field, providing easy access for many fans. The trolley will operate for all Thursday home games and includes three stops in the downtown/midtown area. The trolley will return to these destinations following each game, not only helping to reduce traffic and air pollution, but also providing fans a safe and reliable way to travel between their home and the ballpark.

The Bike Valet will be familiar to some fans, as it has been in place for a number of seasons. Any fan who bikes, blades, scoots, or otherwise travels to the game can safely and securely store their non-motorized mode of transportation in a guarded and secure area on Ballpark Drive for free during games.

These three additions come on the heels of an impressive energy retrofit at Raley Field, which included the install of a 154kW solar array. Over the course of the past two years, the River Cats have made great strides to improve their environmental impact. In 2015, the River Cats created the Sustainability Circle to collaborate with partners and help make Raley Field more sustainable.
