ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Sacramento River Cats (50-76) managed just one run on eight hits, despite a red-hot Miguel Gómez, and fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes (59-67) 7-1 on Sunday evening.
It was a rude welcome back to Triple-A for right-hander Mike Connolly, who allowed six extra base hits including two home runs in his first River Cats appearance since July 14. Connolly left after five, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
Second baseman Gomez entered the day with four straight games with two or more hits dating back to August 15 in Reno. He smacked a double to center in his first at-bat and added an RBI-single in the sixth for his fifth multi-hit game in a row. He is 12-for-24 in those five games and is now hitting .289 for the season.
Kelby Tomlinson took an 0-for-4 this evening to bring his 18-game hitting streak to an end. The last Triple-A game that Tomlinson went hitless in came back on July 2 against the Fresno Grizzlies.
After Monday's off day, the River Cats kick off the final homestand of the season against the interstate rival Fresno Grizzlies, beginning Tuesday night at Raley Field. Left-hander Daniel Camarena (0-7, 5.05) will look to continue the River Cats' success against Fresno this year, while the Grizzlies will send left-hander Framber Valdez (2-0, 4.15) to the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Catch all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app, and on the air on Money 105.FM.
Additional Notes

  • With the loss going to starter Mike Connolly (0-2), the Sacramento's current starting rotation has a record of 3-24. While the group has pitched much better as of late, the run support has not helped their cause.

  • The eight extra base hits allowed on Sunday were the most since the River Cats allowed nine such hits against on June 26, also in Albuquerque against the Isotopes.
