River Cats cash in with 11-run, 19-hit win over Aces

Shaw smacks first home run, Gregorio garners quality start in 11-3 victory

Reno, NV - After playing six straight games decided by one run, the Sacramento River Cats (19-31) took no chances in their 11-3 win over the Reno Aces (32-20).

Reno, NV - After playing six straight games decided by one run, the Sacramento River Cats (19-31) took no chances in their 11-3 win over the Reno Aces (32-20).

The River Cats pounced on the Aces early and never looked back, driving in seven runs on 10 hits through the first three innings. Sacramento started the offensive outburst in the second inning courtesy of a Chris Shaw solo home run, his first at the Triple-A level. Shaw went on to finish the day 2-for-5 with a run and a double. The River Cats went on to bat around in the inning with Austin Slater highlighting the five-run frame by singling in two runs. In total, Sacramento tied a season-high by collecting 19 hits.
Right-hander Joan Gregorio did his part in the blowout victory as well, going six strong innings while allowing three runs on nine hits. Left-hander Matt Reynolds and right-hander Kyle Crick closed the door over the next three innings, allowing just one walk to go along with four strikeouts and did not allow a hit.
The River Cats will look to earn the series split as they send left-hander Michael Roth (4-3, 4.14) to the hill for the series finale. The Aces will counter with right-hander Frank Duncan (3-4, 5.57). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN 1320.

Prospect report: No. 5 prospect Chris Shaw went deep for his first Triple-A home run on a 2-0 pitch…he also hit his third double of the year and now owns a .286/.318/.571 slash line in five games with Sacramento.
Gregorio: Joan Gregorio earned his third win of the season today…now has five quality starts on the year…owns the fifth-best ERA in the PCL with a 3.18 mark.
Threes company: Four different River Cats hitters registered three-hit games in today's win (Slater, Juan Ciriaco, Tim Federowicz, Juniel Querecuto)…Querecuto and Ciriaco also each drove in three runs…Ciriaco notched his three RBI on a home run in the eighth inning, his third in his last six games.
Base knocks: Sacramento tied a season-high with 19 hits against Reno…had 19 hits on 5/11 at Colorado Springs when the club set a franchise-high with 13 runs in one inning…the River Cats went 7-for-21 with runners in scoring position today and collected six base hits…right-hander Kyle Crick contributed, hitting his second career double in the ninth inning.
