WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - Triple-A Baseball® announced today that the 2018 Triple-A All-Star Ballot has officially launched, providing fans across the country the opportunity to send their favorite players to the Triple-A All-Star Game. The online ballot for the 31st annual Triple-A All-Star Game, set to be played in downtown Columbus, Ohio at Huntington Park on Wednesday, July 11, will be available over the next four weeks before fan voting closes on Friday, June 22.
Several 2018 River Cats have made a strong case for inclusion in the Triple-A All-Star Game. Sacramento's outfield trio of Austin Slater, Steven Duggar, and Chris Shaw has made an impression on the PCL this season with their outstanding play. Slater is among the league leaders in batting average (.375), OPS (1.102), and doubles (17) while playing solid defense in the outfield and at first base. Shaw is leading the River Cats in home runs (10) and RBI (30), while Duggar has come on as of late, leading the team in hits (44), chipping in seven stolen bases, and playing an outstanding centerfield. Infielder Chase d'Arnaud has also been All-Star worthy, hitting .280, leading the team with 10 stolen bases, and offering versatility in the field.
From the pitching side, right-hander Dereck Rodríguez has impressed to the tune of a 4-1 record and 3.40 ERA in 50.1 innings. He leads the River Cats in innings pitched (50.1) and strikeouts (53). 2017 PCL All-Star Tyler Rogers has been tough on hitters once again this season, earning a 2.31 ERA in 23.1 innings, with 18 strikeouts.
Fan balloting will help determine the starting lineups for both All-Star teams, accounting for one-third of the total vote along with ballots cast by members of the media and each club's field manager, coaches, and general manager. Fans can cast their ballots at the official websites of the Sacramento River Cats (rivercats.com), Minor League Baseball™ (MiLB.com), and the Pacific Coast League (PCLBaseball.com). Ballots are also available through the MiLB First Pitch app on Android, iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch® devices. Once fans have made their selections, they will be able to share links to their ballots through Facebook and Twitter to encourage others to vote.
All fans who participate in the online balloting will be able to vote for players on both the IL and PCL rosters. Fans can select one player for each of the infield positions, plus three outfielders, a designated hitter, catcher, and four pitchers - two starters and two relievers. Write-in votes for players not listed on the ballot will also be accepted. Up-to-date statistics and position-by-position comparisons will be available at the click of a mouse to help fans make their selections.
The Huntington Bank Triple-A All-Star Game presented by Gildan will be broadcast live on MiLB.TV. All-Star festivities in Columbus begin with the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby and Skills Competition on Monday, July 9, part of the 10th season celebration for Huntington Park that will include hosting the 2018 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game in September.
