SALEM, VA – The Salem Red Sox trampled over the Lynchburg Hillcats 10-2. The Red Sox (4-5) gave the Hillcats (8-1) a taste of their own medicine on Thursday night.

The Red Sox got scoring early in the bottom of the first when Stephen Scott doubled home Gilberto Jimenez and Nick Decker giving the Sox an early 2-0 lead. Matthew Lugo kept the train moving with an RBI single scoring Scott. With the bases still loaded Gilberto Jimenez singled to right field to score Alex Erro and Ceddanne Rafaela to give the Sox a 6-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third Jaxx Groshans provided a productive at-bat and singled to left on a broken bat single scoring Alex Erro. In the fourth inning it seemed that the Hillcats were going to make an offensive splash with runners on first and second and no one out. Instead, Jorge Rodriguez started the Red Sox first triple play of the season retiring Yainer Diaz on the lineout, Micah Pries at second, and Will Bartlett at first.

In the fifth inning Gilberto Jimenez continued to heat up at the plate when he singled home Ceddanne Rafaela to give the Red Sox the 8-0 lead. After the Hillcats scored one in the top of the sixth, the Sox struck back for two more in the bottom of the eighth off of a wild pitch from Trey Benton and an RBI from Stephen Scott.

The final score from Salem Memorial ballpark was 10-2 as the Red Sox snagged their first victory of the series. The Sox will look to even the series Friday night at 7:05 PM.
