SALEM, VA (Sunday, May 20) - Tyler Hill homered and Jordan Procyshen reeled off three hits while Darwinzon Hernandez turned in a fine outing to lead the Salem Red Sox to a 7-3 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Sunday at Haley Toyota Field.
Salem (19-20) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first against Wilmington (17-24) starting pitcher Arnaldo Hernandez (L, 4-2), who allowed three straight singles with one out to load the bases. With Bobby Dalbec at the plate, a wild pitch brought in Brett Netzer, and with two outs, Procyshen smacked a single through the middle to plate C.J. Chatham and Jerry Downs, giving the Sox a 3-0 lead.

The Blue Rocks drew level immediately in the top of the second against Salem starter Darwinzon Hernandez (W, 3-1), as Kort Peterson led off with a single before heading to second on a wild pitch. Xavier Fernández hit a bouncer to short, and Santiago Espinal tried to double Peterson off second, but Netzer muffed the throw, allowing Peterson to reach third. Gabriel Cancel smacked an RBI double to plate Peterson and advance Fernandez to third. The Red Sox lefty recovered to fan Chris DeVito, but surrendered a two-run double to Angelo Castellano and hit Nick Heath with a pitch. However, D.J. Burt bounced into an inning-ending double play with the score tied at 3-3.
The Sox moved back in front in the bottom of the fourth inning. Procyshen led off the frame with a double and moved up to third on a single from Hill. Ryan Scott lined an RBI single to right, and Hill went to third on the hit as Procyshen scored. Chris Madera then brought in Hill on a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-3 lead.
Salem expanded the edge in the bottom of the sixth against Wilmington reliever Justin Camp, who gave up a leadoff single to Procyshen to start his outing. Hill then bashed a fly to left that cleared the wall for a two-run homer (his first dinger of the season) and gave Salem their final 7-3 lead.
Darwinzon Hernandez was terrific, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while fanning five in six innings. Hunter Smith allowed one walk and struck out one batter in a scoreless inning of relief.
