Bees and Aviators Split Two Games Friday

The Salt Lake Bees and Las Vegas Aviators split a pair of games on Friday night at Smith’s Ballpark. Salt Lake took game one 12-5 and Las Vegas took game two 10-1.

The Bees were down 2-0 in the second inning when the suspended game resumed, but quickly tacked three runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. Then trailing 4-3 going to the bottom of the sixth Salt Lake blew the game open with five runs and added another four in the bottom of the seventh. Gavin Checchini finished the game five-for-five while Michael Stefanic, Matt Thaiss and Kean Wong each hit a home run. Thomas Pannone picked up the win pitching five and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing two runs.

It was all Las Vegas in the regularly scheduled game. The Aviators scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, piling on an insurance run in the sixth. Salt Lake scored a run on a Jo Adell single. Adell now has 59 RBI on the season, adding to his Triple-A West lead.

The Bees and Aviators will meet again for a Pioneer Day game on Saturday night. First pitch is at 6:35 with fireworks postgame.
