Angels prospect Canning pitches four shutout innings in debut

SALT LAKE CITY (June 21, 2018) -Angels prospect Griffin Canning pitched four shutout innings in his Triple-A debut as the Salt Lake Bees defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 6-3 to open up at four-game series at Smith's Ballpark.

SALT LAKE CITY (June 21, 2018) -Angels prospect Griffin Canning pitched four shutout innings in his Triple-A debut as the Salt Lake Bees defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 6-3 to open up at four-game series at Smith's Ballpark.

Canning, the Angels #7 prospect according to MLB.com, gave up two hits and three walks while striking out six. Five Salt Lake relievers backed Canning allowing three runs over the final five frames. Jake Jewell (2-4) picked up the win for Salt Lake with one and one-third scoreless innings. Taylor Cole picked up his fourth save of the season with a three up, three down ninth inning.
 
Jabari Blash, in his first game back with the Bees after being optioned by the Angels, blasted his PCL-best 19th homer of the season with a solo shot off Rob Whalen in the third inning. Rymer Liriano hit his 14th home run of the season with a two-run blast in the ninth inning to give the Bees some insurance. Eight of the nine Bees starters collected at least one hit with five multi-hit games.
