Grizzlies Rally Late To Beat Bees

May 15, 2018

The Fresno Grizzlies rallied for a 4-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Monday night.

The Fresno Grizzlies rallied for a 4-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Monday night.

The game was tied at 2-2 in the eighth when Jon Kemmer drilled a two out, two run triple off of Jake Jewell (1-2) to put Fresno in front. Josè Briceño belted a solo homer to left with two out in the ninth to get the Bees within one, but Dustin Ackley lined out to end the game. Salt Lake had broken a scoreless duel in the fifth inning, as Dustin Ackley doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch on ball four to David Fletcher and score on yet another wild pitch. Fletcher advanced to third on that wild pitch and would later score on a fielder's choice. The Grizzlies tied the game in the sixth on a two run homer by Tim Federowicz off of Salt Lake reliever Ralston Cash.
Bees starter Simon Mathews, who was called up from low A Burlington when the scheduled starter Félix Peña was recalled by the Angels, tossed four and two-third scoreless innings with three strikeouts and three walks. Salt Lake managed just seven hits against four Fresno pitchers and were led by Jabari Blash, who had a pair of singles. The Grizzlies have taken the first three of the four game series, handing the Bees their first series loss since they dropped three out of five at home against Albuquerque to open the season.
