Isotopes Visit Salt Lake for Six

The 12-17 Salt Lake Bees are back home at Smith’s Ballpark to face off for six-games against the 9-21 Albuquerque Isotopes after a road trip against the Tacoma Rainiers.

Matt Thaiss proved to be anything but an easy out against Tacoma as pitchers could not seem to throw anything by him. Thaiss had eight hits on 19 at-bats (.421 avg.) while reaching base safely 12 times. He showed off his slugging ability against the Rainiers hitting three doubles, a triple, three home runs and knocking in nine RBIs. His most outstanding performance at the plate came on the Bees 8-2 victory on Monday when Thaiss had three hits on four at-bats crushing two home runs, a triple, accounting for 2 runs and tallied five RBIs.

Brennon Lund followed Thaiss’ footsteps with an outstanding three hit performance on Monday with a triple, one home run and four RBIs.

Luis Rengifo was swinging a hot stick for the Bees against Tacoma. He went 7-for-22 against Tacoma and had a homerun, three extra base hits and one RBI. Rengifo had his third three hit game of the season on Thursday going three for six with a double and a triple. Rengifo is batting .313 on the year.

Jo Adell continues to stay atop the leaderboard for homeruns in Triple-A after hitting his 13th, 14th and 15th home runs on the season against Tacoma. On Friday Adell was blasting the ball all over the park. He had three hits on five at-bats and hit two home runs, a double, accounted for two runs and knocked in three RBIs. Adell has the second most RBIs (29) in Triple-A.

Jaime Barria had Rainiers batters guessing all day at the plate as he picked up his first win of the season. Barria threw five innings and only gave up two hits and didn’t allow a run while striking out three batters in the Bees 9-2 victory on Monday.

Faria picked up his second win of the season and had a dominant performance on Friday. Faria pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven batters. The Bees won 8-2.

The Albuquerque Isotopes are off to a rocky start this season with a 9-21 record and are in last place in Triple-A West-East Division and have the least amount of wins in all of Triple-A. The Isotopes finished a six-home game series against the Las Vegas Aviators. The Isotopes won two games and were outscored 36-31 in the series.

Isotopes pitcher Jose Mujica is set to start for the first game of the series against the Bees. Mujica is 0-4 on the year and has a 9.74 ERA on the season. His last outing was on Monday against the Aviators. Mujica threw five innings and gave up three earned runs on eight hits.

Albuquerque right fielder Ryan Vilade had a solid performance against Las Vegas. He had eight hits and 28 at-bats with two doubles, a home run and an RBI. Vilade is hitting .313 in the month of June.

The first pitch of the six-game series between the Salt Lake Bees vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes gets underway on Thursday June 10th at 6:35 MDT.
