A late rally pushed the Sacramento River Cats past the Salt Lake Bees 8-5 on Friday night at Smith’s Ballpark.

Bees starter Thomas Pannone dueled to a standstill with former Salt Lake Bee Matt Shoemaker. Pannone turned in his fourth quality start in his last five outings, allowing four runs (three earned) over six and two-thirds innings while Shoemaker allowed four runs (two earned) over six innings. Salt Lake led 5-4 going into the eighth inning before the River Cats struck for three runs off reliever Jake Petricka to take the lead. Sacramento would add an insurance run off Jose Marte in the ninth.

Taylor Ward, Michael Stefanic and Brendon Davis each recorded a multi-hit night for the Bees with Ward hitting his first home run since returning to the Bees lineup after missing almost two months due to injury. Stefanic raised his batting average to .346 and continues to lead the chase for the Triple-A West batting title.

Game three of the series between the Bees and River Cats is on Saturday night at Smith’s Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. and the game will feature a reunion of the 1991 Salt Lake Trappers Pioneer League Championship team.
