SAN ANTONIO – In a back-and-forth battle that saw four lead changes, the Pointy Boots de Amarillo came out victorious thanks to a four-run eighth inning. They take down the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio by a final score of 6-5.

Osvaldo Hernandez and Brandon Pfaadt participated in a pitcher’s duel throughout the first part of Thursday night’s ballgame. Both teams were held scoreless through the first the first three innings with Amarillo recording one hit and the Flying Chanclas with none.

Things changed in the bottom of the fourth inning when San Antonio took the first lead of the night. Esteury Ruiz drew a lead-off walk and then stole second base. He advanced to third base on a passed ball. With no outs and Ruiz on third, Ethan Skender drove him in with an RBI single.

That lead did not last long as the Pointy Boots de Amarillo took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Dominic Canzone started the inning with a single and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Andy Yerzy capitalized on that with a two-run home run to right field. His second long ball of the season gave them a 2-1 advantage.

Hernandez pitched five innings for the Flying Chanclas while allowing two earned runs on five hits. He allowed no walks and struck out six batters. Sam Williams pitched 1.2 of scoreless baseball following Hernandez. He walked one batter and struck out two.

The Flying Chanclas regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with a four-run inning. Eguy Rosario hit a single to lead off the inning. Rosario advanced to second base on a fielding error from Yerzy on a failed pickoff attempt. Allen Cordoba drove in Rosario with an RBI single to center field. After a double play from Kyle Overstreet, Michael Curry hit a single to extend the inning. Juan Fernandez capitalized and scored Curry on an RBI double down the left field line. Agustin Ruiz provided the big blast with a two-run home run. The Flying Chanclas took a 5-2 lead.

Amarillo regained the lead with a four-run inning of their own in the top of the eighth. Geraldo Perdomo drove in the first run of the inning with an RBI double. Buddy Kennedy drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI single. Dominic Fletcher tied the game with an RBI single. Lastly, with two outs in the inning, Yerzy drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single to right field. Amarillo took a 6-5 lead.
