Nix, in just his fifth start back from a Spring Training injury, was once again sensational. The 22-year-old hurler overcame a leadoff double in the first to quickly settle into a major groove. Nix struck out the side in the second and allowed just two total hits through six.
On most nights, Nix would have breezed to a win, but on Wednesday, Hartman was equally dominant. Hartman kept the Missions hitless until the sixth when
In the top of the seventh, the Hooks plated the game's lone run and it had a historical feel to it. At first, however, Nix appeared to be closing in on another scoreless frame after getting both of the first two Corpus Christi batters out.
Nix (1-1) was the hard-luck loser despite allowing just four hits and no walks, while striking out eight over seven innings.
San Antonio (0-2, 42-30) resumes its eight-game homestand Thursday with the first of four against Midland (0-2, 33-38). In addition to Thursday being a Metro PCS Dollar Night, it will also mark the return of the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio.
Notes: Cesar is now tied with Bobby Trevino of El Paso (1969) for the longest hit streak in league history. It was just the sixth one-hitter in the 14-year history of the Hooks (2-0, 45-26).
