The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio took its rubber match with Tulsa 10-1 Thursday at Wolff Stadium behind a balanced, 12-hit attack.
A Wolff crowd of 5,931 Thursday night got treated to a spectacular performance by the first place Chanclas. After plating a pair of unearned runs in the first against righty Frank Duncan, the Chanclas pushed its lead to 3-0 in the second with a Fernando Tatis Jr. sacrifice fly to center.
In the third, the Chanclas took charge of Thursday's finale when River Stevens followed one-out singles by Austin Allen and Webster Rivas with a homer to right. The three-run blast off Duncan (1-3) was Stevens' third of 2018.
San Antonio was not finished with the long ball yet, however, as Austin Allen wow the packed house with a towering two-run bomb to right off Andrew Istler in the sixth to make the score 8-0.
The Chanclas added a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings to cap their scoring.
Lost in the offensive onslaught was a terrific pitching effort by winning starter Seth Simmons and reliever Erik Johnson. Simmons (1-0) allowed just two hits and one walk, while punching out six over five shutout innings. Johnson followed with three scoreless frames of his own, adding four more strikeouts to the total. Tulsa spoiled the shutout bid in the ninth against Gerardo Reyes with Drew Jackson's two-out double to left.
Tatis Jr., Ty France, Allen and Michael Gettys each collected multi-hit games for the Chanclas. France finished with a game-high three runs scored.
San Antonio (30-17) resumes its homestand Friday with the first of three against Springfield (24-23). The first 2,000 fans to enter The Wolff will receive a FREE Eric Karros SA Missions Blue/Gold Home Jersey courtesy of McCombs Ford West. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Lefty Logan Allen (6-1, 3.15) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Cardinals counter with right-hander Connor Jones (2-1, 5.14).
