The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio pushed its win streak to a season-high nine following a 3-1 victory over Frisco before a Thursday night crowd of 5,528 at Wolff Stadium.
Lefty Logan Allen was on the bump for the Chanclas Thursday evening, looking to become the Texas League's first five-game winner. The West Palm Beach, FL native continued his impressive start to his Double-A career, keeping the RoughRiders at bay through most of his evening.
The Chanclas offense provided all the support Allen would need in the third against righty Pedro Payano (1-3) courtesy of a Fernando Tatis Jr. RBI-single to left, a Ty France RBI-single to right and an Austin Allen sacrifice fly to right.
Allen's only blemish came in the fifth when Frisco avoided a shutout with a Yonny Hernandez sacrifice fly. Otherwise, Allen (5-1) was once again terrific, allowing just four hits and three walks, while punching out a season-high nine over six and two-thirds innings. Rowan Wick and José Castillo (4th save) combined on the final seven outs to complete the Chanclas' ninth straight win.
San Antonio (23-10) resumes its four-game series with Frisco (7-26) Friday at 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans to enter The Wolff will receive a FREE Missions Thermal Mug courtesy of 54th Street. Jerry Keel (1-0, 5.01) will get the ball for the Missions Friday, while the 'Riders counter with fellow southpaw Brett Martin (0-4, 9.53).
Notes: Prior to the game, right-hander Jesse Scholtens was transferred to Triple-A El Paso. San Antonio received fellow righty Lake Bachar from High-A Lake Elsinore as the corresponding move.
