A monster night at the plate by Manny Garcia powered Brazos Valley to a 6-1 win over San Antonio Tuesday night in front of a season-high crowd of 1,496 at Wolff Stadium.

The first meeting of the season between the top teams in the South Division got off to an inauspicious start for Chanclas lefty Austin Krob. The TCU hurler, making his first start at Wolff Stadium, quickly fell behind 2-0 in the first on an RBI single from Garcia and a productive groundout from Wesley Faison.

Garcia added to the lead in the third when he deposited a Krob (1-3) pitch onto the berm in left. The solo shot was the Louisiana Tech outfielder’s second of the season.

The night on the bump did not get much easier for Krob’s replacement, Zach DeLeon, who immediately fell into a bases-loaded jam in the fifth. Once again, Garcia tormented San Antonio, clearing the bases with a double to right center. Garcia entered Tuesday with four runs driven in on the season and left with nine.

San Antonio spoiled the shutout bid in the sixth when Kyte McDonald drew a bases-loaded walk against reliever Henry Bird.

Starter Bryce Miller and five relievers combined on a five-hitter Tuesday. Dustin Saenz (1-0) earned the win with a perfect inning of work.

The series resumes Wednesday with a highly anticipated matchup of righties. Marcelo Perez (0-0, 0.87) will get the ball for the Chanclas, while the Bombers counter with Travis Hester (3-0, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
