SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Missions completed the sweep of their Saturday night doubleheader against the Springfield. The Missions shutout the Cardinals in both games with both games ending 2-0. San Antonio has won three straight shutouts for the first time since April 21-24, 2019.

In game one, the pitching matchup was Adrian Martinez against Domingo Robles.

The Missions offense provided an early spark courtesy of Eguy Rosario. Leading off the first inning for the Missions, Rosario hit his ninth home run of the season. Later in the inning, Kyle Overstreet drove in his 32nd run of the season. Jack Suwinski reached on a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. He scored on Overstreet’s base hit.

Springfield had a scoring opportunity in the top of the third inning. With one out, David Vinsky drew a walk and Irving Lopez hit a single. With runners on the corners, Martinez retired the next two batters to keep the shutout intact.

The two runs the Missions scored in the first inning were all they needed as Martinez and Jose Quezada combined for a three-hit shutout. For Martinez, this was his sixth consecutive win, dating back to June 3rd. He is victorious in his last four outings. For Quezada, he converted his 10th save of the season.

In game two, the pitching matchup was Osvaldo Hernandez against Dalton Roach.

Like they did in game one, the Missions used the long ball to their advantage in game two. Missions outfielder Jack Suwinski hit his 15th homerun of the season in the second inning. The 440-foot blast put the Missions ahead 1-0.

It remained a 1-0 ballgame until the fourth inning. Suwinski began the inning with a base hit to right field. With one out in the inning, Allen Cordoba drove in Suwinski with a double down the left field line. For Cordoba, it was his 21st RBI of the season.

Hernandez picked up where Martinez left off and put together one of his best outings of the year. The southpaw tossed 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out five batters. He was relieved in the sixth inning after allowing a two-out double.

Pedro Avila relieved Hernandez and retired all four batters he faced. In doing so, Avila converted his second save of the season.
