The three-run cushion proved plenty for Scholtens, who after the first, settled into a tremendous groove. The Fairfield, CA native allowed just five hits and no walks, while striking out six over a club, season-high eight innings. Scholens (7-2) was extremely efficient, needing just 98 pitches to get through eight, 63 of which were strikes. The hurler set the Cards down in order in half of his innings Wednesday.
