Who/What: The San Francisco Giants have announced that LHP Will Smith will rehab with the San Jose Giants beginning Thursday, April 12, and RHP Jeff Samardzija will make a rehab start on Saturday, April 14.
Will Smith, who debuted with the Kansas City Royals in 2012, was traded to the San Francisco Giants on August 1, 2016. In his 26 appearances for the Giants, Smith struck out 26 batters with a 2.95 ERA. Smith is currently on the 10-day disabled list while continuing his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
Jeff Samardzija, a former fifth round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs, signed as a free agent with the San Francisco Giants on December 9, 2015. In two full seasons in San Francisco, Samardzija has been a workhouse in the rotation, pitching over 200 innings in both 2016 and 2017 while compiling a 4.10 ERA. Samardzija is currently on the 10-day disabled list while he recovers from a strained right pectoral muscle.
The San Jose Giants return to Municipal Stadium for their 2018 Opening Homestand this Thursday, April 12 through Sunday, April 15.
