MOOSIC, PA (June 16, 2022) –The Rochester Red Wings defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3-1 on Thursday evening. Jhony Brito logged his second consecutive quality start with six innings of one-run ball on the mound.

The RailRiders started the scoring in the fourth with an RBI single from Ronald Guzmán against Red Wings’ starter Cade Cavalli. The 23-year-old righty Cavalli allowed that lone tally over five innings with four strikeouts.

Rochester knotted things up with one run in the sixth. Adrian Sanchez plated one on a ground ball after the Red Wings opened the frame with back-to-back singles versus Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Brito. In his third start of the season with SWB, Brito gave up one run in six innings of work and has allowed just two runs over 17.1 innings with the RailRiders this year.

The Red Wings then jumped ahead in the seventh via Ildemaro Vargas’ two-run home run off RailRiders’ reliever Shane Greene to make it 3-1. It was the second long ball of the season for Vargas.

Zach Greene and Greg Weissert combined to pitch two shutout frames out of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre bullpen, but the offense couldn’t muster a rally in the 3-1 final. Patrick Murphy (2-0) earned his second win of the season out of the Red Wings’ bullpen. Shane Greene (1-1) was saddled with the loss for SWB.

The two teams continue their six-game series on Friday with first pitch at 6:35 PM. It’s First Responder Friday as well as Postgame Fireworks. Tickets are available at swbrailriders.com.
