MOOSIC, PA (July 1, 2022) –The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Buffalo Bisons 8-1 on Friday evening for their fifth consecutive victory. Matt Krook pitched 7.2 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and took a perfect game into the eighth inning.

Krook was on cruise control throughout the night and retired the first 23 batters he faced with 10 punchouts. Krook ultimately surrendered his first base-runner of the game on an infield single from Chavez Young in the eighth to break up the perfect game bid. It ended a stretch of 12.2 consecutive perfect innings dating back to his last appearance in Toledo.

The 27-year-old lefty walked the next batter he faced and was relieved by Zach Greene. Krook has now pitched 21.2 scoreless frames dating back to his June 12 outing in Syracuse.

Offensively, the RailRiders grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first. Estevan Florial led off the frame with a double and was brought home when Miguel Andújar reached on an error. Andújar was credited with an RBI and now has seven this series. Two batters later, Phillip Evans drove Andújar in with a run-scoring single to left to make it 2-0.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre plated two more runs in the second after solo home runs from Chris Owings and Armando Alvarez. It was the first big fly for Owings as a member of the RailRiders, while Alvarez has now homered in four straight starts. SWB added another tally in the fifth via Evans’ second RBI knock of the game. Evans went 2-for-4 tonight with the two runs batted in.

The RailRiders extended their lead to 6-0 with another run in the fourth. Florial smacked his third double of the game to right and was brought in on a Tim Locastro RBI single. Locastro finished the night 2-for-4 and is now 4-for-12 this series. SWB added two more runs for good measure on a José Peraza two-run blast to left in the seventh. It was the fifth round-tripper of the campaign for Peraza.

Greene allowed one run over the final inning and a third in the 8-1 final. Krook (4-6) earned his fourth win of the season. Graham Spraker (1-3) suffered the loss for Buffalo. The RailRiders have now won seven of their last eight games.

The two teams continue their six-game series on Saturday with first pitch at 6:05 PM. The RailRiders will wear custom USA jerseys to be auctioned off to benefit Camp Freedom.
