RailRiders Eliminate Early Deficit, Win 7-4

MOOSIC, Pa. (May 27, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Syracuse Chiefs 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The victory was the first in the series for the RailRiders.

MOOSIC, Pa. (May 27, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Syracuse Chiefs 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The victory was the first in the series for the RailRiders.

 
The Chiefs struck early in the top of the first after two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for Irving Falu who then smacked a single that brought in three runs. Chance Adams tossed the shortest outing of his career going two thirds and allowing three runs on one hit, three walks, and a hit batter. J.P. Feyereisen relieved Adams throwing two innings allowing no runs on two hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
 
In the bottom of the second Ryan McBroom smacked a two-out double and Rey Navarro singled to right to drive in McBroom for the first RailRiders run, making it 3-1.

 
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continued to battle back as L.J. Mazilli smashed a solo homerun over the left field wall in the bottom of the third. Two innings later Clint Frazier came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to score Mazzilli tying the game for the RailRiders.

 
The RailRiders took the lead for the first time in the series in the bottom of the sixth inning on a lead-off solo shot by Brandon Drury. However Syracuse responded quickly, tying up the game in the seventh after a throwing error by Nevarro allowed a run to score for the Chiefs.
 
In the top of the seventh, Drury gave SWB their second lead of the game with an RBI infield single. Shane Robinson added another RailRiders run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. They tacked on one insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single by Wade.
 
Raynel Espinal earned the win for the RailRiders throwing two innings allowing one run on four hits, and Cody Carroll notched the save going 2.0 innings allowing no runs on no hits. Mazzilli had a successful day at the plate going 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Wade extended his hit streak to seven games and Drury added to his on-base streak, now at 20 games.
 
The RailRiders continue their four-game series with the Chiefs on Monday afternoon at PNC Field. LHP Justus Sheffield (0-1, 1.46) takes the ball for the RailRiders looking for a series-split of the four-game set, going against RHP Erick Fedde (1-1, 4.35), fresh off a stint on the Washington Nationals roster.
