MOOSIC, Pa. (May 12, 2021) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders fell to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 3-2 on Wednesday night at PNC Field.

The Iron Pigs took the lead two batters into the game against Brody Koerner. Travis Jankowski led off the game with a single and scored on a Ronald Torreyes double to give Lehigh Valley its only run of the game.

Koerner settled down and retired the next nine batters he faced and held the Iron Pigs to three hits and one walk while striking out two in 3.2 innings. In two starts this season, Koerner has allowed only one run in 7.2 frames of work.

Braden Bristo, Nick Nelson and Trevor Lane kept the game close with 3.1 scoreless innings combined out of the bullpen. Nick Goody contributed a scoreless eighth inning to hold the Iron Pigs advantage at 1-0.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre threatened in several innings against Lehigh Valley pitchers, stranding runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. The team finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth against David Paulino (1-0).

Armando Alvarez led off the inning with a walk and went first-to-third on a Greg Allen single. Andrew Velazquez lifted a sacrifice fly to deep right to plate Alvarez with the tying run and advanced Allen to second. A wild pitch sent Allen to third base, where he was able to score the go-ahead run on another sacrifice fly, this time by Miguel Andujar.

In the top of the ninth the Iron Pigs struck back when Cornelius Randolph connected for a two-run home run off Goody (0-1) to put Lehigh Valley back on top 3-2.

After Ryan LaMarre led off the bottom of the ninth with a ground rule double, the RailRiders pushed the tying run to third base with one out. However, Mauricio Llovera was able to close out the win for the Iron Pigs, snapping the RailRiders’ winning streak at six.
