MOOSIC, Pa. (June 23, 2019) -Behind a Logan Morrison home run, a franchise record fourth-straight game with a homer, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Durham Bulls 11-4 Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.
The RailRiders trailed early, entering the bottom of the fourth inning down 4-1. Kyle Higashioka singled to begin the inning and then stood at second base with two outs following a groundout. Ryan McBroom walked on five pitches from Aaron Slegers who entered out of the bullpen to begin the frame. Morrison came to bat as the tying run, and not only tied the game 4-4, but tied a franchise record as well with a homer. It was the third straight game in which he homered, becoming just the third player in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre history to homer in four consecutive games. He joins Tomas Perez (May 24-27, 2000) and Tom Marsh (May 2-5, 1993) in the SWB record books.
The three-run fourth inning began a stretch of seven unanswered runs by the RailRiders between the fourth and sixth innings that saw them go from trailing 4-1 to taking an 8-4 lead. That scoring was capped by Billy Burns' RBI double with two outs in the sixth inning to score Morrison and put the game well in-hand for the RailRiders pitching staff. The scoring for the day wrapped up in the bottom of the eighth inning when Burns connected for his second homer of the year, a three-run poke into the RailRiders bullpen in left field to make it 11-4.
The offense was paced by Morrison (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 3 R, 4 RBI), Burns (2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI) and Ryan McBroom (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 BB) on an afternoon where the RailRiders connected for 15 hits.
The pitching was strong in back of starting pitcher Chance Adams, who exited after 4.2 innings and a career-high 108 pitches. He allowed four runs on nine hits while picking up the no-decision. David Sosebee (3.1 IP) and J.P. Feyereisen (1.0 IP) combined for 4.1 scoreless innings in back of Adams to secure the win, with Sosebee picking up his second victory of the season.
The RailRiders travel to Rochester for a two-game set starting Monday at 7:05 p.m. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on Wednesday, June 26, for a three game, two-day series against the Buffalo Bisons.
