Bryce Brentz Captures Eastern League Player of the Week Honors

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Bryce Brentz has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 28th through June 3rd.

The 23-year old, Brentz, appeared in seven games for the Sea Dogs during the week hitting .435 (10-for-23) with two home runs and four RBI. During the week he led the Eastern League in slugging percentage (.826) and extra base hits (5). He ranked second in the league in hitting (.435) and tied for second with 10 hits, three doubles, and two home runs.

Brentz etched his name in the Sea Dogs record book on Thursday, May 31st when he collected his second five hit game of the season, becoming the first player in franchise history to collect five hits in a game multiple times. Brentz went 5-for-5 against the Harrisburg Senators including three doubles, which also tied a franchise record.

In 52 games this season with the Sea Dogs, Brentz is hitting at a .306 clip with seven home runs and 20 RBI. The 2011 Red Sox Co-Offensive Minor League Player of the Year is ranked by Baseball America as the #5 prospect in the Red Sox organization. Brentz was the Red Sox second pick (sandwich pick between the first and second rounds, 36th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player.

Brentz is the second Sea Dogs player to earn the award this season. Juan Carlos Linares took home the honor for the opening week of the season.
