Sea Dogs Win Third Straight, 88th of Season

Miller 3-for-4 with a Home Run
August 31, 2014

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (88-53) stayed with their winning ways and took down the Harrisburg Senators (52-89) 6-2, Sunday afternoon, on Field of Dreams and Fan Appreciation Day at Hadlock Field. The win ups the season series to 6-0 in favor of Portland with one game to play.

After a fantastic pre-game ceremony, complete with a "corn field" in center, the Sea Dogs jumped on the board right away in the first inning. Mike Miller crushed an off-speed pitch over the Maine Monster for a solo home run, his third of the season and first at Hadlock, giving the 'Dogs a 1-0 lead.

Eduardo Rodriguez climbed the hill and tossed three scoreless to begin his outing. The southpaw retired the first man he faced in the fourth, but gave up back-to-back base hits followed by a sac-fly and Harrisburg tied the game at 1-1.

The tie was short-lived as Portland rebounded and plated three in the fifth inning against the starter Zach Kroenke. The lefty walked a pair and gave up a base hit, all with two down, and set the table once again for Miller. The second baseman ripped a double to left-center and cleared 'em all upping the Portland lead to 4-1.

The final runs for the 'Dogs scored in the sixth, making it 6-1 Portland. Jonathan Roof had an RBI double and Stefan Welch connected for a sacrifice fly against Neil Holland for the two runs.

Rodriguez (6-8) finished six innings and allowed just the one run on five hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Robby Scott pitched a perfect seventh and Mike McCarthy delivered a scoreless eighth, before Harrisburg got one back against him in the ninth.

The first three Sens reached on two hits and a walk and Caleb Ramsey plated the second run of the game with an RBI single to left and ended the righty's day on the mound. Noe Ramirez came on and induced a double play to the lone man he faced, ending the game and locking down his 18th save of the season.

Kroenke (3-9) lasted five innings and allowed four runs on four hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Holland gave up two runs over two innings and Robert Benincasa tossed a scoreless eighth for the Senators.

The 'Dogs and Sens wrap up the season series and regular season with game 142 Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM from Hadlock Field. The starters for both sides have not been announced. Radio coverage begins at 12:40 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network. MiLB.tv coverage 12:55 PM
