Erie blasts Akron to win sixth straight

Eaves nails grand slam in the victory

ERIE, Pa--- The Erie SeaWolves (46-44) won their sixth-straight game in dominating fashion, defeating the Akron RubberDucks (44-44) 15-1.
The SeaWolves struck first in the opening frame as Harold Castro got aboard with a leadoff triple. Following a Kody Eaves walk, Dominic Ficociello's RBI Double would plate Castro for a 1-0 lead. During a Christin Stewart strikeout, a wild pitch allow Eaves to come in and score while Ficociello reached third. Afterwards, Gabriel Quintana would plate him with an RBI single as Erie took an early 3-0 lead.
The Ducks would answer in the fourth as Francisco Mejía send a leadoff solo home run to right as Akron trimmed their defecit 3-1.
The Wolves responded in the huge way for the bottom of the fourth. Quintana led off with a double before advancing to third on a Grayson Greiner groundout. From there, the SeaWolves unleashed their two-out magic. Wade Hinkle would bring Quintana in to score on a RBI single to give Erie a 5-1 lead, advanced to second on an A.J. Simcox base hit and reached third on a Castro walk. Afterwards, Eaves cleared the bases with a grand slam sent to right-center. Afterwards, Ficociello reached base with a single before Christin Stewart sent a two-run shot to right-center as Erie took a commanding 10-1 lead.
The SeaWolves would add onto their lead in the fifth as Simcox got a two-out triple before Castro brought him home thanks to a fielding error on Yonathan Mendoza as Erie went up 11-1.
The Wolves continued to cushion their lead in the sixth as Stewart on aboard with a one-out walk before Steven Moya sent a two-run home run to right-center, followed by Grayson Greiner's solo shot to left as Erie went up 14-1.
The SeaWolves closed out their offensive explosion with Stewart leading off the eighth with a double, reaching third on a wild pitch and coming in to score on Moya's RBI Single, giving Erie the 15-1 win.
SeaWolves pitcher Matt Crouse (6-2) picked up the win, giving up a run on three hits and three walks while striking out seven in seven innings.
RubberDucks pitcher Michael Peoples (2-5) got the loss, giving up eight runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings.
The SeaWolves will go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 pm. Erie will send RHP Artie Lewicki (7-3, 3.81 ERA) to the mound while Akron will send LHP Thomas Pannone (4-1, 2.39 ERA).
The first 1,000 fans in attendance for Sunday's game will receive a free SeaWolves Pillowcase. It's also another Kid's Crew Day presented by Giant Eagle and Star 104, and every member of the Kid's Crew will receive free admission. The Kids Crew is free to enter for fans 12 and under.
Tomorrow's game is also another Wendy's Scratch and Win Sunday, and the first 500 fans will receive a free Wendy's scratch and win ticket. Every one of them is a winner.
