Late Rally Falls Short on Sunday Against Akron

The SeaWolves dropped a crucial two-run ballgame on Sunday afternoon to the Akron RubberDucks, 6-4, in the home season finale at UPMC Park.
Akron jumped ahead against Erie starter Beau Burrows in the second when Taylor Murphy connected on an opposite-field solo home run for a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Bobby Bradley singled with one you and Yu Chang clobbered his 23rd home run of the season, giving the Ducks a 3-0 advantage. With two outs, Murphy doubled and scored on a Tyler Krieger double to make it 4-0.
Erie got on the board in the fifth against Akron starter Shao-Ching Chiang. Zack Cox doubled with one out and scored on a two-out, A.J. Simcox base hit to make it 4-1.
The 'Wovles then cut the lead down to a pair of runs in the sixth. Harold Castro led off with a single and scored from first on a two-out Christin Stewart double.
Akron roared back to a four-run lead in the seventh against Erie reliever Gerson Moreno. Krieger led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ivan Castillo laid down a sacrifice bunt and Moreno's throw to third was not in time to get the lead runner. Moreno then hit Greg Allen, loading the bases for Dorssys Paulino. Paulino walked, scoring Krieger for a 5-2 Ducks lead. Moreno was lifted for Adam Ravenelle. Francisco Mejía lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Castillo to make it 6-2. Ravenelle would get the final two outs, limiting the damage.
Erie closed the gap once again in the last of the seventh. Cox led off with a single and moved to third on an Eaves double. With one out, pinch-hitter Logan Watkins singled home both baserunners to make it 6-4.
The 'Wolves loaded the bases in the ninth against reliever Cameron Hall. With one out, Simcox and Grayson Greiner each singled and Castro reached on an error. Will Maddox would hit into a game-ending 3-2-3 double play, sending Erie to the loss. Hill earned his 12th save.
Chiang (1-2) earned the win allowing four runs on nine hits with no walks and four strikeouts in six innings.
Burrows (6-4) took the loss allowing four runs on seven hits with no walks and five strikeouts in four innings.
Erie hits the road for the final eight games of the season to Binghamton and Akron. They will take on the Rumble Ponies on Monday night at NYSEG Stadium at 6:35 p.m.
