The SeaWolves dropped their second consecutive game, falling to the Bowie Baysox 4-3 in 11 innings on Monday night at Prince George's Stadium.
The Baysox struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Tyler Alexander. Corban Joesph led off with a single and moved to second on a hit by pitch. Joseph moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on an Aderlin Rodriguez sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves took the lead in the fifth against Bowie starter Michael Kelly. Herlis Rodriguez led off with a walk and Josh Lester followed with his first Double-A home run. The two-run blast gave the SeaWolves a 2-1 advantage.
The lead was short lived as Rodriguez connected on a two-out, solo home run to right off of Alexander in the sixth to make it a 2-2 game.
Alexander took the no-decision in his first start of the season allowing two runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. It was the longest an Erie starter has worked in a game this season.
The game remained tied until the top of the 10th inning. Under the new extra innings rule, Erie started with Lester on second base. A.J. Simcox followed with a walk to put runners on first and second for the top of the lineup. Jacob Robson laid down a bunt and the Baysox got the lead runner at third base. The 'Wolves would load the bases with two outs on a Jake Rogers walk, pushing the go-ahead run on third base for Dominic Ficociello. Ficociello drew a walk, scoring Simcox for a 4-3 lead.
The Baysox started the bottom of the 10th with Anderson Feliz on second. Ademar Rifaela then reached on a Lester error, giving Bowie two on with no outs. Erie recorded an out on a Martin Cervenka fly out for the first out of the inning. Adrian Marin followed and reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Feliz, tying the game.
The SeaWolves failed to score in the top of the 11th, giving Bowie an opportunity to win the game. Erick Salcedo started on second base and moved to third on a Joseph groundout. Erie then opted to load the bases, setting up a double play with Rodriguez coming to the plate. Rodriguez sent a bouncer to the mound that was bobbled by reliever John Schreiber, allowing the winning run to score on an error.
Tanner Chleborad (1-0) earned the win for Bowie tossing a scoreless 11th.
Schreiber (0-1) took the loss despite not allowing a hit in two innings of relief. He allowed an unearned run with two walks and no strikeouts.
Erie and Bowie meet in the middle game of the series on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium. Lefty Josh Turley (1-0, 7.71 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP John Means (0-0, 5.40 ERA).
