Stewart Drives Home a Run on Tuesday

The SeaWolves dropped their third straight game as they fell to the Akron RubberDucks, 4-1, on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The RubberDucks jumped ahead and scored all four of their runs in the inning against SeaWolves starter Josh Turley. Turley struck out the first two batters of the inning before yielding back-to-back singles to Mike Papi and Joe Sever. Todd Hankins put Akron on the board with base hit, scoring Papi for a 1-0 lead. Greg Allen then singled home Sever making it 2-0. With runners on the corners, Allen took off for second with Eric Stamets at the plate. Turley picked off Allen but a missed catch at second by Gustavo Nunez allowed Allen to reach safely. The error also scored Hankins from third for a 3-0 lead. Stamets then singled home Allen for a 4-0 advantage.

The SeaWolves lone run came in the seventh against Ducks starter Nick Pasquale. Pasquale carried a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up a leadoff single to Corey Jones. With two outs, Christin Stweart singled home Jones making it 4-1. Akron removed Pasquale in favor of reliever Grant Sides. Sides walked Dominic Ficociello and Kody Eaves, loading the bases for the top of the lineup. Sides then struck out Gose, ending the Erie threat.

Sides and Cameron Hill would combine to retire the final seven batters of the game in order, preserving the Akron win. Hill earned his second save working a 1-2-3 ninth.

Erie reliever's Kurt Spomer and Adam Ravenelle kept Erie in the game tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of Turley. They combined set down 10 straight.

Pasquale (3-7) earned the win allowing a run on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

Turley (7-9) was the tough luck loser allowing four runs, two earned, on 10 hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

The SeaWolves and RubberDucks meet in the third game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Artie Lewicki (1-7, 3.48 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Julian Merryweather (5-4, 4.00 ERA).
