Bullpen Keeps Senators Close in Loss

Bates, Runion and Demny combine for six scoreless
August 14, 2014

The Reading Fightin Phils took home a series win by beating the Harrisburg Senators, 5-2, on Thursday night in front of 5,857 fans at Metro Bank Park.

Reading attacked early with four runs in the first and one in the second off Senators' starter Felipe Rivero. Colin Bates followed with three scoreless innings of relief and Sam Runion fired a clean frame of his own. Paul Demny finished off the night with two scoreless innings to lower his season ERA to 2.97.

The extent of Harrisburg's offense came in the seventh inning as Kevin Keyes and Jason Martinson both singled to start the inning. Two batters later, Ricky Hague lined his 19th double off the left-center field fence to score Keyes. Brian Jeroloman scored Martinson with an RBI groundout, but that was it for Harrisburg on Thursday night.

Harrisburg now travels to New Britain to take on the Rock Cats in a four-game, three-day series. Tomorrow night, Harrisburg's James Simmons will face New Britain's Taylor Rodgers in a 7:05 p.m. start.
