Espino and Senators Suffer Tough Defeat

Sens' starter goes eight strong, but Portland scores in the ninth
August 21, 2014

Paolo Espino turned in the best start by a Senator this season, but a late home run vaulted the Portland Sea Dogs to a 1-0 victory on Thursday night in front of 3,858 fans at Metro Bank Park.

Espino fired the first three innings perfectly and did not allow a hit until the fifth. The right-hander allowed two hits, but cruised to eight scoreless innings in which he struck out 11 batters - the most by a Senator this season. Unfortunately for Harrisburg, the first batter reliever Derek Self faced was Mike Miller who lifted a home run over the right field fence to push Portland in front 1-0.

Two Senators' players notched multi-hit games as Caleb Ramsey and Drew Vettleson both were 2-for-3 with two singles. Kevin Keyes also added his 14th double of the season. The three players accounted for all five Harrisburg hits.

Tomorrow night the Senators welcome the Trenton Thunder to Metro Bank Park for the first time this season. Zach Kroenke will take the hill for Harrisburg against Trenton's Jeremy Bleich for a 7:00 p.m. start.
The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
