Four-Run Sixth Gives Sens 5-4 Win

Sean Nicol delivered a clutch pinch hit two-run single to highlight a four-run sixth, as the Harrisburg Senators defeated the Altoona Curve 5-4, surviving a late rally.

Caleb Clay was outstanding again for the second consecutive outing against Altoona. The right-hander gave up just three hits and one run in six innings. He did not walk a man and struck out five. The performance came on the heels of one where he went six scoreless innings last Friday in Altoona in a game the Sens won 4-0.

Harrisburg took the lead in the first on an RBI groundout by Destin Hood. Altoona tied the game in the fourth on Andrew Lambo's RBI single.

It remained tied until the sixth, when Nicol was called off the bench to hit in the pitcher's spot and delivered with a single up the middle, driving in Sandy Leon and Josh Johnson. Brian Goodwin was the next batter and he smoked a triple to the gap in left-center that scored Nicol. Jose Lozada's sac-fly brought home Goodwin with the fourth run of the inning. Lozada was two-for-two with an RBI and two walks on the night.

There was plenty of drama at the end. With two out and two on, Stefan Welch hit a three-run home run to bring the Curve to within one. Alex Dickerson was the next batter and he hit a ball well to center, but Goodwin had room to haul it in and end the game. Aaron Barrett was credited with his second save and Clay picked up his second win.
