Head Powers Sens Over Rock Cats 6-1

May 2, 2013

New Britain, CT - Jerad Head had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs to lead the Harrisburg Senators to a 6-1 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Thursday, securing a split of the four-game series.

In the first morning contest of 2013, the Senators offense was silenced through the first part of the game, but they turned it on in the fifth with a four-run frame. Down 1-0, Kris Watts delivered an RBI single to tie the game. A critical error by New Britain second baseman James Beresford with two outs extended the inning and Harrisburg took advantage. Josh Johnson drove in two with a single and Jerad Head followed with an RBI single of his own.

The Senators tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and eighth innings on a Watts RBI double and a towering home run by Head, his second of the season.

Nathan Karns was sharp again for Harrisburg on the mound. The right-hander pitched six and one-third innings, giving up just three hits and the lone Rock Cats run. Pat McCoy and Aaron Barrett each threw an inning and one-third to close out the game. Destin Hood was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, and two runs scored.

Tomorrow, the Senators return to Metro Bank Park and open a six-game home stand, beginning with the first of three against the Binghamton Mets. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
